ADHD Assessment
The assessment and management of ADHD may involve the use of controlled medications and ongoing clinical monitoring. This information outlines the expectations and responsibilities required to support safe, effective, and collaborative care.
It incorporates our outpatient ADHD assessment process, as well as the standard requirements for the prescribing and management of controlled medications, in accordance with current clinical guidelines and best-practice standards.

South Australian ADHD Prescribing Reforms
From March 2026, accredited General Practitioners in South Australia are able to independently diagnose and manage ADHD in children aged 8 years and above, as well as adults. These reforms have improved access to ADHD care, particularly for regional communities.
ADHD commonly occurs alongside other neurodevelopmental conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD assessment and diagnosis are currently undertaken through a multidisciplinary team approach, which is separate from the ADHD assessment process.
Should indicators of ASD be identified during your ADHD assessment, appropriate referrals and recommendations for further assessment will be provided.
A thorough assessment includes exploring multiple areas to develop a complete understanding of your symptoms and history. Your ADHD diagnostic assessment will include the following:
Medical History
Developmental and Education History
Functional Assessment
Psychometric Testing
Physical Examination
Diagnosis
Recommendation
Pathology Tests if clinically indicated
Cardiology Investigation if clinically indicated
It is important to note that undergoing assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis nor guarantee stimulant prescription. A diagnosis and medication recommendation requires meeting full diagnostic criteria and completing all investigations.
Appointments and Fees
〰️
Appointments and Fees 〰️
ADHD diagnostic assessments will require two 60-70 minute face to face appointments, with a possible third appointment if clinically required.
The fee per consultation is $450 and for each consultation, eligible clients will receive a Medicare rebate to cover part of the cost, which is $205.65, therefore an out-of-pocket gap of $247.35 per consult applies. So, a total assessment fee of $900 with an out-of-pocket cost of $494.70.
A $200 deposit must be paid per appointment and is due 7 days prior to the appointment.
All fees must be paid on the day of consultation.
The cost of ADHD diagnostic assessment does not include the cost of cardiology investigations e.g. electrocardiography, echocardiogram or Holter monitoring if clinically indicated.
Cancellation of less than 48 hours and failure to attend each appointment will result in the $200 deposit being forfeited.
